Apps for Your Health

There’s no question that our smart phones have become increasingly useful. And, not only for reminding us about birthdays, keeping track of grocery lists, and playing a seemingly infinite variety of games. There are also a lot of great apps for managing, maintaining, and monitoring your health.

Some apps that we hear can be very useful include: 

Diabetes App: Manage blood sugar levels, track glucose, and count carbs with this app. If you struggle to manage your diabetes between doctor appointments, this app can help you keep track of important information and allow your healthcare provider to monitor fluctuations.

iTriage: Use this free app to search for health answers based on your symptoms, conditions, medications, doctors and more. Find medications, diseases, and medical locations and instantly get answers to your questions on your iOS device. 

Instant Heart Rate: This app does just what the name says—let’s you find your heart rate in less than 10 seconds. You don’t need any additional equipment since the app uses your phone’s flash to determine your heart rate.

My Pregnancy Today: This app may replace your dog-eared copy of What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Find out how your body will change during your pregnancy, learn about fetal development, and when the time comes, use the contraction timer on the big day.

The 7 Minute Workout: If you’re short on time but itching for a workout (and already in pretty good shape, by the way), try this app. The format is voice activated so that you don’t have to check your phone during the quick (and intense) workout.

These can be useful tools in managing your health between visits with your doctor, but it’s still essential to see your healthcare provider regularly, particularly with chronic conditions.
